What a scare we've had! Caleb was constipated last week. I called the Dr a few times and did everything they said to do. It temporarily subsided and then started up again. Then on Sunday he vomited twice. I had just changed his formula, per the Dr, so I didn't think it that unusual. But later that night, around 1:30 am, he woke up with a 103.3 fever. Luckily, I was staying at my parents house while Byron & Cameron were away. Mom & I took Caleb to the closest ER. The Dr there said it was standard procedure to do a spinal tap on a baby who is less than 2 months old and has a fever. Yikes! After 2 attempts and still not successful, I made the Dr stop. I couldn't bear Caleb going through any more pain. Then they gave him antibiotics thru his IV. He immediately screamed, broke out into a full body rash, turned blue and went into anaphylactic shock. Thank God we discovered this allergy while in a hospital!! They gave him steroids and benadryl and thankfully he recovered quickly. I, however, haven't! I was so afraid I was going to lose him.

Because of the allergy scare, we were transported via a critical care ambulance to All Children's Hospital. They ran a slew of tests, including another spinal tap-this one successful in one shot. Basically they were trying to determine if he had a virus or a bacterial infection. They admitted Caleb for a standard 48 hours, the time it takes to get results back. We were in a room with 3 other babies. Between all the Dr's, beeping from machines, coughing from the other babies, there was little sleep to be had. It made me grateful for the 4 hours of sleep I was getting at home! Luckily, Caleb slept through it all.
In time, Caleb's fever came down, his eating and pooping resumed, and my precious boy got better. It was a virus. We got home Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to those of you who knew about this and prayed for us!
